POCONO MOUNTAINS, Pa., October 13, 2009 -  The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) is proud to announce of a myriad of Halloween options for visitors to the 2,400-square mile region this month. From scary venues to family-fun activities, the options are endless in the Pocono Mountains.

If your looking for old-fashioned haunted houses, Altered Nightmares in Weissport and Hotel of Horror in Saylorsburg provide a great scare. Both properties feature live actors, special effects and multiple levels of terror throughout the month of October.

On October 16, head to the Sherman Theater in downtown Stroudsburg for Halloween Hell Night. Starting at 7pm, view the horror movies The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead and Phantasm in one frightening evening.

On October 17, 24 and 31, hear tales of strange happenings and hunt for ghosts at the Old Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe. Tours will take place every 20 minutes from 6:30-9:30 pm.

For family-fun take a rail excursion, hike or enjoy a downtown celebration on Saturday, October 24. The Stourbridge Line Rail Excursion will be taking two and a half hour special runs to the Hawley Station Pumpkin Patch. Children of all ages are invited to dress for the occasion and will be greeted with treats and prizes. Take a hike to learn about nocturnal creatures and listen to stories around the campfire at Pocono Environmental Education Center's PEEC-A-Boo Halloween Trail in Dingmans Ferry. Downtown Stroudsburg will be hosting a celebration with trick-or-treating opportunities on Main Street and a children's costume pageant.

On Halloween night, get your thrills by listening to chilling tails of Forevermore, adoptions of four works of Poe. These tails will be read by the American Readers Theatre Company at Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford.

The Special Offers section of www.800poconos.com offers visitors a variety of Halloween packages including hayrides, tours, murder mysteries and more at a variety of accommodations throughout the region. Additional events can also be found on our online Calendar of Events.
