PR Personality

As a new hire of the PMVB, I made my first visit to the historic town of Milford last evening. To be perfectly honest, as I am winding up Route 209 past several unbelievable wood lines and immaculate recreational areas, I was convinced my GPS may have gotten me lost. But as I continued driving along the Delaware River, I finally reached my destination. Milford is full of pale blue pristine shops, unbelievable boutique hotels, cultural and historic sites and immense Victorian homes. Anyone looking to escape to a town full of rich history and natural beauty, will find that Milford is truly unique and perfect, especially at the newly renovated Tom Quick Inn
I was at the Inn last night for a Pike County Chamber of Commerce networking event and I have to say I was shocked. Not only about how gorgeous the Inn is, but the number of people who turned out for the event. As a newcomer to the group, I chose to survey the scene and had a light bulb moment. Networking events are exactly what the tourism industry needs during this economic recession. Whether it is seeing an old friend, making a new acquaintance or coming away with a new idea, an attendee has gained something valuable. I commend the Pike County Chamber and the Tom Quick Inn for such a successful event and encourage others to collaborate and hold these types of events because they may just be the key to ending the recession.

Every angler has "the one that got away" permanently imprinted in their brain.  For some of us, there are actually several that got away.  I like to call these fish unicorns.  They are like mythological creatures and, since no one else saw them, you begin to question their existence.  Am I imagining things or was that a trout over 20 inches?  That's what ran through my mind as I walked upstream to the next hole in Toms Creek.
Just a few minutes before, I saw my most recent unicorn.  Slowly peering over a ledge my body went into absolute shock, as my eyes immediately fell upon a trout of epic proportions.  This fish was about three times too big for the water it called home.  Upon seeing the fish, I formulated a plan of attack while trying to remain calm.  My palms and forehead became sweaty as my heart rate increased dramatically.  After several minutes of thought, I decided to approach from upstream.  I did my best to make myself invisible as I crawled into position for a cast.  "This is going to be amazing" I thought.  The cast landed more or less where I intended, but the trout was apparently not interested.  I went back up to the secret lookout, ever-so-carefully peaked over the edge, and the trout was gone.  Forever.
I never saw that fish again but to this day I remember it.  It was a fish worth telling stories about, worth subsequent visits to the stream, worth ridiculous amounts of time and effort.   It was too good to be true.  It was a unicorn.  That is, if it was ever actually there.

Last week, I decided I needed to shop and went to The Crossings Premium Outlets to do it.  I love The Crossings, you get to be outdoors and shop at the same time (who needs the gym when you can shop!).  As I was walking around and looking at which stores I might want to check out I noticed BCBG Final Cut, a store I have never seen before.  First of all the newly opened store is amazing!  They have high-fashion items at extremely low prices.  You can walk out of BCBG Final Cut with a stylish shirt for $30, and if you've ever been to a BCBG store good luck finding anything for $30.  After I bought a few things in BCBG Final Cut I continued my journey through The Crossings to find another store I might be interested in.   I found myself going directly to Coach without even realizing it!  If you have checked out my profile (and if you haven't you should!) you see the picture of me with my arms full of Coach handbags.  Don't worry they're not all mine; I would like to thank my co-workers for contributing to the reason why my friends think I don't need anymore handbags. LOL. Coach is known for their amazing quality and the outlet store doesn't forget this.  When I walked in I couldn't help but touch everything I saw from leather, to signature handbags.  I just wanted everything!  Of course I had to come back to reality and remember I should only buy one, but maybe one day I'll be able to by the whole store.  I was looking for a white handbag and saw many that were to my liking but I saw one specific handbag that I really liked but there were none in white.  Almost immediately a friendly staff member came up to me and asked if I needed help finding anything and right away I asked if the handbag came in white.   She told me she would check in the back and as she walked away I hoped she would come out with the bag in her hand, and she did!  I continued to the checkout and left a happy customer.  The Crossings Premium Outlets has everything for any occasion.  I recommend to anyone looking for high quality items at low prices to check out The Crossings Premium Outlets!

The Weekender

Got the need for speed?  Well then, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!  The Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup Race weekend at Pocono Raceway is here.  Feel the roar of the engines, smell the asphalt and let the adrenaline rush.  The race weekend starts Friday with cool events leading to the race on Sunday.  Never thought of going to a race before?  I highly recommend it.  You just don't realize the raw power of the cars until you see them in person.  It's an experience I will never forget.

Speed not your thing?  Head up to Honesdale to the Stourbridge Line for the Great Train Robbery Run.  The excursion will be held on Saturday, August 1. The train will depart at 1pm.  This 3 ½ hour round-trip from Honesdale to Hawley is great for the whole family.

Maybe tours and sightseeing is more your thing.  Head down to Jim Thorpe and visit the Manor at Opera House Square for Defeo's Manor Tour.  This beautiful Queen Anne, Victorian Style Home, circa 1880, is open for tours, with free admission.

As for me, my weekend plans are still up in the air.  The weekend weather is looking pretty awesome…for now, so I'm thinking some outdoor adventure is in order.  Be sure to check back next week to find out where my weekend adventures take me and to see what events are coming up.  Hope to see you around the mountains.

Mommy&Me

How many of you like a good walk? I for one love a good walk! So on a Friday afternoon my fiancé Steven suggested that we go for a walk with our son Troy. Steven and I love to go for walks but at the end of a long walk there is nothing better then seeing something amazing at the end of it all. It's kind of like the light at the end of the tunnel. When thinking about where to go Dingmans Falls came into mind, this would be our light at the end of the tunnel. We packed up the baby bag, loaded up the stroller and we started up Route 209 North. Try to imagine yourself turning off of Route 209 North onto Johnny Bee Road, a curvy and dark road, and then all of a sudden you're hit with a pool of bright warm sunlight. This is the light at the end of the tunnel I was talking about. Troy's eyes lit up, he was so mesmerized by these two amazing waterfalls he would even reach out and feel the mist of the water on his little fingers. So get out there and take a nice walk, you never know what you will find at the end of the tunnel.

Interested in Dingmans Falls?

Dingmans Falls is located in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. If you want more info on this National Park check out there website!

Mommy&Me

I am originally from New York City and when I moved to the Pocono Mountains I was absolutely clueless as to how relaxing this area can be. I did not know how much I would grow to love it here, So 11 years later this is what I know:

I know that I love that there are four amazing waterfalls just five minutes away from my home in Bushkill, I love being surrounded by the best mountain views that are just simply breath taking, I love to go for walks with my fiancé and our son Troy and watch him giggle at the wind blowing the leaves on the trees and most of all I love that I do not have to go far to just get away and make memories that will last a lifetime. When I moved to this area, I never thought that I would fall so in love with this area the way that I have. I have always been adventurous but I became more curious about this area when I began to work at the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau as a Travel Counselor. I learned that there is so much to do and as a new mother what better way to make memories then take an adventure and learn what home has to offer. I would love to hear about the memories you have made here with your families.

The Weekender

My name is Nina and I like long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners and…oh wait, wrong profile, let's try this again.  My name is Nina and I was born and raised in the Hazleton area and I am considered a "Coal Cracker".  I say things like "yous guys", eat pierogies and drink white birch beer.  I relocated to the Pocono Mountains with my husband, who is a Tannersville native, in 1999.  I love football; I actually got my husband into it.  Sundays, some Saturdays and Thursdays and Monday nights are reserved for football.  I am a proud mother of a baby boy who was born in April 2009.  I hope he likes football just as much as I do, and the same team for that matter.

I do database entry at the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.  My job is pretty cool because I get to learn about the new members, all the events that are going on, or the awesome lodging packages that different properties are offering.  My husband, son and I rarely sit at home, we are always checking out the different events, or visiting some of the awesome attractions, here in the Pocono Mountains.  Since we are never home on the weekends, I will be writing about some of the fun and exciting things that will be going on during the weekend.  Festivals, concerts, hiking, rafting, shopping and more, you name it, we're doing it.  I hope to see you out there, too!

Hi, my names Emily Tarnecky and I am originally from right here in the Pocono Mountains.  I recently graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and I work at the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau with the title of web/research coordinator.

I live for the weekends and always find something fun and exciting to do.  I'm a professional shopper (or so I tell myself) and all my friends always ask me for shopping advice.  Name a store and I've probably been to it or bought something from it.  Check out my blog and let me help you find the best sales, restaurants, and places to catch a late night drink.
