This Weekend in the Pocono Mountains

Winter may have tried to make its way into the Pocono Mountains last week, but fall is in full swing. Experience some of the following events taking place in the Pocono Mountains this week.

Restaurant Week Along the Delaware officially began yesterday, but will continue until November 1. Modeled after New York City's Restaurant Week, ‘Restaurant Week Along the Delaware' promotes the numerous first class restaurants in the tri-State area, along with the area as a destination. Take a tour of the many scrumptious restaurants along the Delaware River that have world class chefs, superb service and all for under $32. For a complete list of participating restaurants click here and get out and celebrate food!

On Saturday, start celebrating Halloween at Stroudsburg's ‘Downtown Halloween'! The fun begins at 2:30pm with entertainment in Courthouse Square as children and parents line-up for the children's costume pageant to begin at 3pm.  No registration necessary!  Children enjoy trick-or-treat on Main Street from 3:30-5pm at businesses displaying a special "trick-or-treat" sign in the window. Get your child's favorite costume out and let the fun begin!

Not going to be in the Stroudsburg area on Saturday? Head over to Honesdale and have some Halloween fun at the Stourbridge Line Rail Excursion. This approximately 2 1/2-hour trip is a favorite with children of all ages. Bring the whole family because all are invited to join in the fun and wear their Halloween best. The trip will stop at the Hawley Station Pumpkin Patch where cider, pumpkins and donuts will be available for purchase.  Ticket are $20/adults and $15/children 12 and under and reservations are required.  The excursions will begin at noon and 2pm. You won't want to miss out on this exciting event this weekend.

Milford's Annual Black Bear Film Festival

It's time... for the Black Bear Film Festival in the Pocono Mountains!

Ever dream of going to the Cannes Film Festival? Well Black Bear Film Festival located in Milford, is the Cannes of the Pocono Mountains! For my followers out there who have never heard of The Black Bear Film Festival let me give you a little insight. The Black Bear Film Festival was created in 2000 to support innovative and independent films, artistic expression, education, diversity, and cultural enhancement. With the promotion of the region's clean air and water, abundant wildlife, natural beauty and the entities that protect them, The Black Bear Film Festival not only helps to protect the Pocono Mountains but entertain them as well. Zane Grey, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish and John Barrymore are just a few of the celebrities who have graced Milford's rich filmmaking heritage!

The Black Bear Film Festival will kick off its 10th anniversary year Friday, October 16! The event begins at the recently restored Tom Quick Inn with a delicious buffet, open bar and a film clip program by local author, John DiLeo entitled "Bloopers, Secrets and Surprises in Classic Hollywood Movies."

Come watch the newest and best independent films and documentaries from around the world at the Delaware Valley High School Auditorium on beautiful Route 6 and 209, just 4 miles outside of Milford!

Saturday, Oct. 17

  • On Saturday and Sunday, Tom Quick Inn will host a free independent film salon. The salon is dedicated to showcasing the latest and greatest film shorts from well known and emerging artists. The salon also provides an interactive platform for aspiring filmmakers, writers and artists to meet and ask questions of industry professionals.
  • The Columns Museum, located at 608 Broad Street will host three historical films and a "Meet the Artist Reception" featuring local artist Yvonne Parker.

Sunday, Oct. 18

  • Grey Towers National Historic Site will be home to the free ENVIROFEST! ENVIROFEST features environmentally focused films, dialogues and information booths. The three venues on the grounds of Grey Towers are The Pool Terrace, The Letter Box and The Bait Box. A portion of this year's ENVIROFEST films will highlight conservation heroes Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold and Gifford Pinchot who share a connection to Pike County and Pennsylvania.

With this year's schedule packed full of amazing films, you won't want to miss out! The festival starts with the animation film "Sita Sings the Blues" on October 16 and ends with "That Evening Sun" on October 18! On October 10-11, enjoy an exciting combination of arts and crafts vendors, food, free music, shopping and dining specials. With vendors like these, you're sure to find some amazing things! The music performances will appeal to everyone with a mix of performers ranging from bands like Wandering Root to Faculty Brass.

Love classic cars? Or are scarecrows more your thing? Head to East Stroudsburg for the Annual Scarecrow Festival! Bring the whole family and create one-of-a- kind scarecrows! Once you're finished with your scarecrow, head on over to Stroudsburg for the Auto's in Autumn car show! The car show will feature cars from DWG Classic Car Club, Keystone Region MG Club, Porsche Club of America, and TriCounty Corvettes. As you stroll through the cars on display, enjoy music broadcasting throughout town.

Make your way to the 23rd Annual Hawley Fall Foliage Antique Show and Sale at the Ritz Company Playhouse. With some much to do in the Pocono Mountains its hard to list everything there is to do.  Why not try out a few different things and come up with what you like the best!


Come to Penn's Peak and check out 3 Country Rock Legends with Jonathan Edwards, Firefall and Poco on July 17th!! Show starts at 7:30pm and doors open at 6pm! Premium Reserved Seating $32, Regular Reserved Seating  $27.  At Penn's Peak you're guaranteed to have an amazing time!


Check out the great entertainment at The Deer Head Inn this weekend!  The Peggy Stern Trio is playing on Friday, July 17, 7 to 11 pm with a music charge of $5.  The Eric Doney Trio is playing Saturday, July 18 7 to 11 pm with a music charge of $12/$6 after 9:30.


This weekend at Mount Airy Casinos Gypsies Lounge & Night Club come see Jerry Blavat w/ Kenny Vance and The Planotones Friday, July 17 at the Cabana Bar.  Show time is from 8pm – 11pm and tickets are just $20!


This Friday at Sam Snead's Jimmy Brown plays classic rock & roll guitar. He covers range from The Who to Zeppelin to Pink Floyd to Nirvana. He is also the Music Editor of Guitar World magazine in New York City, as well as its sister publications: Guitar World Acoustic, Bass Guitar, and Guitar Legends so be sure to check him out! Enjoy a nice relaxing summer weekend in the Pocono Mountains with great music and great food!  You can't go wrong with any of the entertainment below so try it out for yourself and see what your favorite thing to do in the Pocono Mountains is!


Raymond the Amish Comic is making another appearance at Penn's Peak!  Raymond has appeared in TV commercials, the movie "For Richer or Poorer" with Tim Allen, MTV, Philly After Midnight and he can be heard quite often on 95.1 WZZO out of Allentown.  Please be aware that Raymond's shows do contain adult language.  Don't miss the hilarious comedy of Raymond The Amish Comic on July 11th!!


The bar scene this weekend has great specials and local big name entertainment. Front Row Sports Bar located on Main Street in Stroudsburg will be hosting The Pocono Duo on Friday July 10th and The Steve McDaniel Band Saturday July 11th!  Come out and see all that Downtown Main Street has to offer!


Rocking to Melissa Etheridge, Indigo Girls, James Taylor and more, Kate and CJ bring an upbeat sound to Sam Snead's Tavern, and keep the crowd tappin' their feet! Come check them out this Friday 9pm-12am at Sam Snead's located in Shawnee On Delaware.


The Deer Head Inn located in Delaware Water Gap presents Skip Wilkins Quintet on Friday July 7th from 7-11pm with a music charge of $5.  On Saturday come check out the Heather Masse Band from 7-11pm with a music charge of $12 and only 6$ after 9:30.  Come eat great food and listen to great music this weekend at The Deer Head Inn!

This Weekend in the Pocono Mountains

The 4th of July is only a few days away and if your one of those last minute type of people like myself then this blog will come in handy for you!  With so much to do in the Pocono Mountains this 4th of July it will be hard to choose just one thing to do!



Get Geared Up at Penn's Peak for the Fourth of July Weekend!  R.F Ohl Fuel Oil Proudly Presents the Summer Deck Party Series.  Come party with Becky & The Beasts live out on the deck, Friday July 3rd 6:30-9:30pm.



 

Camelbeach is the perfect place to sit and relax and watch fireworks.  Camelbeach's annual fireworks will be starting at 9:30pm, July 4th.  Entertainment will begin at 5:00pm featuring the May Babies!  Parking Fee's are $10 per vehicle after 5pm.  Parking fee proceeds benefit the Pocono Township Volunteer Fire Co. 


 

With a background in blues, opening for such top blues men as James Cotton, Snooky Pryor, and Filthy Rich, Brian heads the Brian Dougherty Band, creating the unique sound and energy of this classic rock band.  Come see the Brian Dougherty Band this Friday July 3rd, 9pm-12am at Sam Sneads located in Shawnee On Delaware!


 

There will be a spectacular fireworks show with music at Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono this weekend!  The fireworks will launch at 9:00pm.  Enjoy the show from the Casino or from anywhere nearby with a clear view!  Mount Airy Casino Resort is located on Woodland Road in Mount Pocono.



 

The annual Independence Day Celebration and fireworks show is this July 4th at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in Shawnee-on-Delaware! There will be an outdoor DJ, Uncle Sam Stilt Walker, Mark Clark's "All American Magic Show" and various food and craft vendors.  Fireworks start at dusk.  The event runs from 7:00pm to 10:00pm and the price is $10 per carload; proceeds benefit the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company.  Rain date is July 5.

This Weekend in the Pocono Mountains

With the work week half way through and the 4th of July here next week, its time to start thinking about what to do this weekend!  There's always something new and different going on in the Pocono Mountains, now all you have to do is pick your favorite!

 


Penn's Peak is proud to announce Dokken on Friday, June 26th, 2009 at 8:00pm.  Dokken, led by Don Dokken one of the most respected vocalists of the decade, was one of the biggest acts of the 80's hard rock scene.  Make plans to check out the 80's hard rock sound of Dokken at Penn's Peak!!  Buy tickets NOW!

 

 


Sam Snead's Tavern located in Shawnee On Delaware will be hosting Gravel 'n Smooth this Friday June 26th!  This musical duo consisting of Rock and Sean, play a great variety of classic rock including Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Phish, and many other favorites.  On Saturday June 27th Mike Metzgar will be playing a variety of cover music from the Beatles to the Rolling Stones on his live acoustic guitar.  There is always something happening at the Tavern!

 


The Deer Head Inn located in Delaware Water Gap presents the Jennifer Leitham Trio (Jennifer, bass; Tomoko Ohno, piano; Sherrie Maricle, drums) this Saturday, June 27th, 7 to 11 pm, with a music charge of $12 and only $6 after 9:30.  Jennifer Jane Leitham has been referred to by noted jazz critic Leonard Feather as the "left-handed virtuoso of the upright bass." In addition to her successful performance career, Jennifer has appeared on over 100 recordings with some of the giants of jazz music. In addition, she has recorded 7 highly acclaimed CDs of her own.  Come check out the Jennifer Leitham Trio this weekend at The Deer Head Inn!

This Weekend in the Pocono Mountains

Who isn't looking for something fun to do this weekend? With summer officially here on Sunday June 21st go out in the Pocono Mountains and try something new.  Whether you have lived in the Pocono Mountains your whole life or your just here for the weekend there is always something new for you to try.

 


Pub 715 South will be hosting Valley of the Giants Friday June 19th at 10pm and REBOURNE Saturday June 20th at 10pm. Located off route 715 in Reeders, Pub 715 South is a great place to go and enjoy great live entertainment along with great food.

 

 

Three Dog Night is returning to the stage at Penn's Peak!!  Friday June 19th come to Penn's Peak and party with Three Dog Night!  Three Dog Night has been entertaining audiences and topping the charts for four decades. They continue to perform over 80 dates per year, which has helped them continually expand their fan base.  Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 8pm.

This Weekend in the Pocono Mountains

With the work week winding down and the weekend quickly approaching most of us are trying to figure out to do this weekend in the Pocono Mountains.

 

 

 

This weekend Split Rock Resort & Golf Resort located in Lake Harmony is holding the Pennsylvania Wine and Food Festival.  At events like these you are guaranteed to have a blast, wine, food, what could be better? Wine Fest is Saturday and Sunday June 13th and 14th from 12pm to 6pm.  Each Festival attendee will receive a commemorative wine tasting glass, and you must be over 21 to be served.

 

 

Camelbeach will host their annual "School's Out Day" on Friday, June 12, 2009.  This annual event will kick off daily operations at Camelbeach with a Buy One, Get One Free admission.

 

 

The bar scene this weekend has great specials and new unique entertainment. Siamsa Irish
Pub
located on Main Street in Stroudsburg will be holding the 1st heat of the Miss Siamsa beauty pageant this Friday at 9:30pm with music by DJ Troy.  Other specials will be $3 Jager Bombs and $2 Jager shots.

 

 

Penn's Peak and R.F Ohl Fuel Oil proudly presents the Summer Deck Party Series. This Saturday June 13th the Craig Thatcher band will be playing out on the deck.  If you enjoy good music and fresh air this is the event for you!
