S&S Amusements returns to the Fernwood Hotel and Resort Great Lawn for family fun.  Open to resort guests, residents, and anyone vacationing in the Pocono Mountains region.  The Fernwood Carnival will offer everything from traditional carnival games and rides, children's rides, festival foods, and chances to win using skill and a little luck.  Admission to the carnival has a pay one price Family Night, where one payment per person allows unlimited ride usage, scheduled for July 22-24 from 6-10pm.  Pay an additional pay one price special at $13 which will be offered July 26-27 from 2-5pm.  Resort guests receive a $2 discount off of pay one price special days.  The carnival operates daily during its scheduled run starting at 6pm until 10pm except Saturdays and Sunday when the carnival opens at 10am.  Parking for the carnival is free.

The Scranton Limited Short Train Ride is a three mile round trip, which lasts about 30 minutes.  The train ride will be offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  We will also operate this ride on Mondays and Tuesdays (with a diesel locomotive) in July and August 2008 only; the rides will not operate on Mondays and Tuesdays during the rest of the 2008 season.  Tickets to ride this train cost $3 per person, all ages 6 and older.

It is that time of the year when children look forward to the end of the school year.  Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River wants to keep the love of learning and reading alive and well during the summer months.  During the course of seven weeks, participants will learn about many of the key scientific principles behind what lives and grows in their own backyards.  Rangers will guide the participants through experiments relating to plant development, density and the food web.  The program will also include art projects and games relating to fish and wildlife.  The hour long program will meet for seven weeks.  This program is designed for children ages 7-12 and is limited to 25 children.  Please call to register.

Calligraphy is the art of beautiful handwriting.  Students will learn how to use specially designed calligraphy pens to turn their handwriting into beautiful cursive, italic writing that can be used everyday on cards, envelopes, letters and notes.  Using felt-tipped markers makes calligraphy possible for both left and right-handed students.  Class will be held on Mondays from 2-4pm.  Cost is $70/members and $90/non-members.  Material list will be provided.

Are you interested in Pocono Wildlife, how about archery or fishing?  If you enjoy the out-of-doors, then the Conservation Camp is for you!  Conservation Camp is a residential camp for students ages 14 through this year's high school graduate.  The intensive schedule of classroom and hands-on instruction covers many aspects of the conservation and natural resource fields.  Cost for camp is $150 per student, which includes a $50 application and $100 camp fee.  The application fee must be paid by the student and must accompany a completed application form.  The $100 camp fee may be paid by either the student, a sponsoring organization, or through a scholarship.  A number of scholarships are available each year upon request.
