Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark will celebrate Independence Day with star-spangled style.  Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark's annual Fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30pm.  The second rubber duck race of the season will launch at 3pm, this time benefiting The Sherman Theater's Fine Arts Discovery Series.  Local favorites, The Maybabies, will strum through the transition from duck race to fireworks, as they are scheduled to hit the stage at 5pm.  All events, except the purchase of a duck, are included with regular waterpark admission.  After 5pm a $10 per car parking fee will be collected and donated to the Pocono Township Volunteer Fire Company.  Ducks can be purchased for $20.  Rain date is scheduled for July 5.

Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is holding its annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks, which benefits the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company. There will be an outdoor DJ, Uncle Sam Stilt Walker, Mark Clark’s “All American Magic Show” and various food and craft vendors. A delicious Hickory Licks barbecue is planned. “The Best Show in the Poconos" a full one half hour fireworks display will be at dusk presented by the Castiglione Fireworks Display Company.  Saturday gates open at 7pm, show starts approximately at 9pm.

The wonder of the Upper Delaware Valley often captures the curiosity of young residents and visitors.  The program "Backyard Biology" seeks to develop their interests even further and act as a catalyst for life-long learning.  "Backyard Biology" will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30am.  This program is designed for children ages 7-12 and is limited to 25 children.  It will also be held in the backyard of the Zane Grey Museum.  The hour long program will meet for seven weeks.

Monster Trout Derby

All anglers interested in landing a monster trout and winning one of 100 prizes should be fishing the Lackawaxen River.  In addition to the thousands of fish stocked by the PA Fish and Boat Commission, the Lackawaxen Township Business Owners Association will stock 100 five to ten pound trout between The Settler's Inn in Hawley and the Zane Gray Bridge in Lackawaxen.  This is the third year for the hugely successful Monster Trout Derby.  There is no entry fee or pre-sign up.  Just go fishing, get lucky and win a prize.  All fish are tagged and the tag numbers corresponds with each fish's sponsor.

The Monroe County Historical Association is pleased to announce the newest exhibit at the Stroud Mansion entitled "Light After Dark: Lighting Devices 1690 through 1900."  Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 9am-4pm and the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10am to 4pm.  Please contact the MCHA office ahead to confirm the exhibit will be open for viewing.  One hour guided tours of the entire Mansion are offered at 10am and 2pm daily.  The cost to tour the Stroud Mansion is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 to view the special exhibit only.

It is that time of the year when children look forward to the end of the school year.  Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River wants to keep the love of learning and reading alive and well during the summer months.  Through stories and crafts the "River Readings" program will allow children to learn about the Delaware River and the many animals, insects, plants and trees that can be found along the shores of this beautiful river.  "River Readings" will be held every Thursday at 10:30am.  This program is geared to children in pre-school through first grade and is limited to 20 children.
