Water Is Necessary For Survival. And, Some Might Say, For a Poconos Vacation
About the Pocono Mountains:
When the heat of summer bears down on us, nothing cools the body and soothes the spirit quite like being in and around the water. And if ever there were a perfect place to be in and around the water, it is the Pocono Mountains. The Pocono Mountains are home to 150 lakes, 18 waterfalls, 170 river miles, Lake Wallenpaupack and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The Poconos' Lake Wallenpaupack is the third largest man-made lake located entirely in Pennsylvania. This 5,600 acre lake has no less than 52-miles of uninterrupted shoreline, and has become one of the Pocono Mountains most treasured recreation areas. Each year, visitors of Lake Wallenpaupack enjoy all types of boating, swimming, scuba diving and more. Many other beautiful Pocono lakes are located in Pennsylvania state parks and other Pocono lakes are only accessible as privately owned lakes.

An angler can visit the Poconos area for an entire month and never fish the same water or fish for the same species twice. And the odds of an impressive catch are greatly helped by the heavy stocking of the waters of the Pocono lakes, done annually. Some of the types of fish stocked include walleye, panfish, pickerel, largemouth bass, muskellunge, kokanee salmon, brown trout, and rainbow trout.
When spring comes, the melting snow and spring rains cause white water to rush down from the top of the mountains. This creates excellent whitewater rafting conditions in the Pocono Mountains, especially on the winding Delaware and Lehigh Rivers. Beautiful rock formations, spectacular waterfalls, spring water pools, bank side wildlife, and jumping fish can all be seen during a whitewater rafting adventure in the Pocono Mountains.
River outfitters in the Pocono Mountains offer whitewater rafting equipment, lessons, guides and special discounts throughout the spring and summer seasons. Guided canoe trips and inner tube rentals are available too.
Want more ways to play in the water? The Pocono Mountains has boat and equipment rentals for waterskiing on Pocono lakes, as well as cruising and fishing boats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats, jet skis, wave runners and sailboats. The Poconos also offer fun filled family-friendly waterparks. Enjoy the season by the poolside or take a splash in the wave pools.
