In her "Nature Beauty" exhibit Talma shares her love of nature up close, "forces that lead a keen eye to see beyond the obvious." A special collection of animal mothers and their little ones will be featured. Talma Solomon's photographs will be on display from May 1 to June 1. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 11am-1pm. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm; most Saturdays from 9am-1pm. This event is free of charge.

Enter the world of the amazing Ruby-Throated hummingbird and celebrate the spring migration. These tiny birds are the only ones that can hover like a helicopter, fly backwards, forwards, sideways, straight up and down. Each year they make an amazing journey to the Tropics and back, including a 500 mile nonstop flight across the Gulf of Mexico. Learn how to attract Pennsylvania's only native hummer and watch the DVD "Hooked on Hummingbirds!" The program is free of charge and will begin at 6pm.
MCEEC invites you to join Environmental Educator Darryl Speicher and Dr. Terry Master in an attempt to find 100 species of birds in Monroe County. Meet at the Kettle Creek Wildlife Sanctuary in Bartonsville at 6:30am. With the spring migration in full swing, 100 different species of birds is not out of the question. The cost is $60/non-members, $50/EE Center members and includes all of the day’s transportation, lunch, and a day in the field with Dr. Master one of the foremost bird experts in the region. Pre-registration and payment are required and limited. Refunds will be given only if notification is made at least one week prior to the trip.

Join Dr. Larkin and PA DCNR for a walk on the State Forest Land for a chance to see migratory bird species like the Golden-winged Warbler. The program is free and open to the general public. For many people the song of the whippoorwill is just a memory from the distant past. Join Environmental Educator Brian Hardiman on a search for this mysterious nocturnal bird. Meet at the EE Center at 7:30pm for an introduction on this member of the nightjar family before traveling by van to a location where you will listen for "whips" and even possibly see them. Allen E. Crothamel, an artist from Lake Ariel, PA, paints wildlife and landscapes on the unusual canvas of tail feathers of wild turkey and grouse! There will be an opening reception on June 2, 2012 from 11am-1pm. His painting will be on display until June 30, 2012 at the Monroe County Conservations District's Environmental Education Center during regular business hours.

Activities will include classroom instruction and hands-on outdoor learning opportunities for all ages with participants divided into three age groups: Kindergarten through 2nd grade (parent accompaniment required), 3rd through 6th grade, and 7th through 12th grade. This 24-hour biological survey will take place on the 48-acre Josie Porter Farm in Stroud Township. This event will provide a unique opportunity for people of all ages to participate in a scientific study of the diversity of life at the Josie Porter Farm. Teams of surveyors will comb the property looking for, capturing, and identifying as many species of living things they can. The public is invited to attend numerous activities schedule during the "Blitz". To become part of a survey team you may register with the Conservation District by June 8. This event coincides with the 2nd Annual Cherry Valley Festival. The festival will include many displays and programs and be held from 10am-5pm on June 16.

The Monroe County Conservation Camp is held at East Stroudsburg University's Stony Acres recreational facility. The camp is designed to provide various outdoor opportunities and environmental experiences for interested young people ages 14 through high school graduates. The intensive schedule of classroom and hands-on instruction covers many aspects of the conservation and natural resource fields. One highlight of the week is an overnight canoe trip on the Delaware River. The cost for the camp is $175 per student which includes a $75 application fee and a $100 camp fee.
