Wedding Planning in the Pocono Mountains

Getting married in the Pocono Mountains offers many blessings. It mixes the romance of a scenic landscape - the picturesque rolling mountains, backdropping waterfalls, the changing color in the Fall - with countless activities to keep wedding parties entertained and relaxed.

It will be what a wedding is supposed to be - a wonderful party in an intimate atmosphere. No matter what sort of event you intend to hold, a wedding amid the Poconos is a gift to your guests. If they are coming from away, a weekend with scenic hiking, skiing, cycling, world-class spa facilities, mountain streams to swim in, golf and any number of other activities at your doorstep is a treasured escape. If your guests live in the neighborhood, marrying in the Pocono Mountains is a chance to better enjoy a place we love to call home.

Basic Requirements for a Wedding in the Poconos

Both the bride and the groom must be at least eighteen years old and single. If either party is under the age of eighteen, parental consent is required. If a couple meets these standard requirements, they are qualified to begin planning their Poconos Wedding.

The Marriage License for your wedding in the Pocono Mountains

If you choose the Pocono Mountains as your wedding location, you can apply at the office of Clerk of Orphans' Court in any Pennsylvania State Courthouse. You must apply in person and there is a mandatory three day waiting period before you can pick up the marriage license not counting the day the application is filed. The license is valid for 60 days and may only be used in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In order to apply for a marriage license, you must bring the following with you to the courthouse:

1. Identification. Both parties must have a birth certificate and/or a driver's license depending on the county in which filing. Some counties do not accept birth certificates.

2. $28 - $45 in cash. The cost of the marriage license varies among the four counties in the Pocono Mountains region. *The cost in Monroe County is $30, Wayne County $35, Pike County $28, and Carbon County $45. Most courthouses will only accept cash and no other form of payment. Check with each individual courthouse before you go.
* Prices as of May 2009. Subject to change.

3. Divorce Decree. A certified copy of each divorce decree (if married more than once) must be submitted by both parties or a death certificate if widowed.
