Each season the Poconos lives up to its promise... the spring is fresh, lively and green; the summer fragrant, warm and inviting; the fall plentiful, colorful and sweet; and the winter pure, silent and majestic. Festivals, activities, indoor and outdoor life never slow.
Hundreds of events and activities take place in the Pocono Mountains each year. Music or ethnic festivals, holiday celebrations, sidewalk sales, whitewater rafting days and NASCAR are some of the exciting events that make the Poconos so popular.

The Sculpted Ice Works Factory Tour and Natural Ice Harvesting Museum will be opening this Memorial Day weekend. Each year Sculpted Ice Works manufactures over 12,000 crystal clear ice carving blocks in their plant, and transforms them into brilliant ice sculptures of all sizes. The museum will showcase methods of ice harvesting, ice harvesting tools, uses of ice before refrigeration, and how ice was delivered. The tour of modern ice manufacturing will demonstrate how ice sculptures are made from start to finish. Summer hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm, Sundays from 11am-4pm.
Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm's "Farm Animal Frolic" is family fun at its best. Come to Quiet Valley and enjoy baby farm animals, wagon rides, games, children shows, sheep shearing (May 26), wildlife program (May 19), outdoor bake oven, and more. Admission for the event is $8/adults, $5/children (ages 3-12). The event will be held from 10am-4pm on Saturday and noon-4pm on Sunday, rain or shine. No smoking or pets.
The sights and sounds of the Emerald Isles and Scottish Highlands are coming to the Pocono Mountains on Memorial Day weekend. Visit Shawnee Mountain for non-stop Celtic music on three stages, a bagpipers' parade and fiddlers jam, working sheep dogs, Irish step dancers, and a variety of Celtic craft and food vendors. The festival will be held from 11am-6pm.
In her "Nature Beauty" exhibit Talma shares her love of nature up close, "forces that lead a keen eye to see beyond the obvious." A special collection of animal mothers and their little ones will be featured. Talma Solomon's photographs will be on display from May 1 to June 1. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 11am-1pm. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm; most Saturdays from 9am-1pm. This event is free of charge.
May has historically offered the best combination of whitewater and weather; it is the perfect time to go rafting. Everyone that rafts with Pocono Whitewater will receive a free pass to play Skirmish Paintball - a $30 value.
MCEEC will be offering weekly walks through the Tannersville Cranberry Bog every Wednesday through June 6. These 2.5 hour walks will be guided by an environmental educator from the Center who will lead you through The Tannersville Bog, a very unique northern boreal bog for this area, owned by The Nature Conservancy. Spring is an excellent time to explore the bog's unique plant life which includes insect-eating plants. The cost is $5/non-members, $3/EE Center or Nature Conservancy members and children under 12. Participants will meet at the Center by 1pm. Please wear appropriate footwear. Pre-registration is required.
Enjoy live music every Friday night at the pub at Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort. The lineup includes Abbey Road on May 4, 30 Pack Lite on May 11, Burden on Society on May 18, and Gary Dillon on May 25, 2012. Friday Night Live Entertainment will be held from 8pm-midnight, May through August, 2012.
Farmers and vendors gather once a week to sell everything from fresh locally grown produce, herbs, cut flowers and plants to baked goods, hand roasted gourmet coffee, honey, apple wine, handmade soaps, and more. The Farmers' Market will be held every Saturday from 8am-noon on Ann Street near the American Ribbon Factory.
Every Sunday starting at 1pm enjoy live entertainment, fresh made Sangria, gourmet cheese plate and special brick oven pizza. Special: Get a pizza and pitcher for $19.99. Sangria Sundays will be held from 1-4:30pm.
Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour is celebrating its 51st year on the lake. Sit back and relax on an hour-long cruise on Lake Wallenpaupack as your tour guide describes the area and the history behind this charming Lake Region. Ticket rates are per person and are $14/regular, $13/seniors, $11/youth (under 12). Peak season hours are 11am-6pm; off season hours are noon-4pm. Tobyhanna Army Depot celebrates its 100th Anniversary. Join Steamtown NHS on a special excursion to the depot from 9am-5pm. The depot will host an open house from 8:30am-4pm with guided tours of the depot’s mission area. To enter the installation, visitors over the age of 16 must have photo identification. There will be special family-oriented activities during the train’s visit, including a children’s carnival, wall climbing, musical entertainment, car show, historic military equipment, food, vendor tents and more. Tickets are $34 for adults 16-61 years old, $29 for ages 62 and older, and $22 for children 6-15. Children age 5 are free with paying adults. Reservation and pre-payment are required.
Join Environmental Educator Darryl Speicher at 9am for this 2-hour walk through the Long Pond Barrens. This incredibly miss-named ecosystem is home to globally rare insects and has been named one of the Last Great Places on earth by the Nature Conservancy. The walk is timed to coincide with the return of migrant birds. Call the EE center for directions to the meeting location on Hypsy Gap Road in Tunkhannock Township. The cost is $5/non-member, $3/EE Center member and children under 12.
Grab your wildflower guide and join the Park Naturalist for a wildflower hunt along the new trails at Varden Conservation Area. Meet at 6pm in the Western Wayne Middle School’s parking lot and cross the road to the trailhead. The program is open to all ages and abilities. A limited number of Newcomb’s Wildflower guides will be provided. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Pre-registration is required.
Bring your family and friends to experience the best of what PEEC has to offer. Interpretive hikes, animal presentations, fishing, canoeing, crafts, campfire, and more. The rate includes three nights of lodging and nine meals. The cost is $205 per adult, 25% off ages 7-10, 50% off ages 4-6, free under 3; commuter day rates are available, call for details. Head out to Hickory Run State Park this holiday weekend and enjoy environmental education programs for the entire family. Programs include DiscoverE Backpack Pick-Up, Boulder Field Basics, Guided Hike-Stone Trail, Wildlife Olympics – For Kids, Concert: Jay Smar, Family Scavenger Hunt, Movie in the Park: Osprey, Introduction to Geocaching, and Go Fishing!. Grab the family and head out to Promised Land State Park Memorial Day Weekend for a fun filled weekend of environmental education programs. Programs include Paddling with the Naturalist!, Park Boundary Trail Loop Hike #3, Eagle Viewing with the Naturalist, Eagles for Kids!, Masters of the Sky: Bald Eagles, Conservation Island Hike, Introduction to Kayaking, and Ladies of the Lake!. Join Park Volunteer Ann Foster to continue exploring the diverse Park Boundary Trail. This is an easy two mile hike with one steep hill. The hike begins at intersection #82 and proceeds towards intersection #79 on Boundary Trail. You will then use Bruce Lake Trail back to intersection #81 and use North Shore Road to hike back to your car. The program is free of charge and will begin at 10am. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Please register.
