Hypertufa was developed in the 1930s to replicate the heavy stone troughs that were popular among English gardeners in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Thanks to their porous nature, these pots are ideal for plants needing good drainage. First, in this two part workshop, objects will be used, such as Tupperware containers, plastic bowls, and even ceiling light shades to create the shapes you need to assemble this attractive and functional sculpture. In the second part the objects will be released from molds and they will be sanded, scored, and cleaned up to ready them for complete drying. After making a few containers and other objects, you will find the process quite rewarding. It is not an exact science, which is part of the fun. Every pot or object has the potential to surprise, but always please. This class will be held with instructor Jody Singer.

You are floating down the Mississippi when the band strikes up a tune and everyone is dancing, clapping, and singing along. This is the experience of Roosevelt time; Jug-band blues, classic New Orleans soul, and neo-folk with a nontraditional lineup of banjo, electric and gut-bucket basses, percussion, clarinet, saxophone, and the occasional electric guitar. Called a perpetual crowd-pleaser by the New York Times. Do not miss this show at the Hawley Silk Mill!
