This free contest has been designed to promote the great work being done by the Watershed District to protect and improve clean water in Lake Wallenpaupack. This summer, the BIG fish could also bring you some BIG prizes. Nearly 50 fish of varying sizes and species have been netted, tagged, and released into Lake Wallenpaupack at various locations. Each tagged fish has a great prize associated with it. There’s no cost to participate, but you must register. The fishing period of the contest will run through September 30th, 2014.

This fun-filled class will concentrate on increasing fundamental painting skills using a variety of aqua-panting media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, water-based oils, colored pencil, water soluble pencils, etc.) All students will develop a strong sense of compositional design, use of value and color, and how to achieve desired effects. The focus will be on the individual needs of each student, as Will demonstrates each technique and then circulates among the class offering individual assistance, advice, and encouragement. Students may use photographs, reproductions of other paintings or set up their own designs. Students are encouraged to paint what they love or admire. As we gear-up for the centennial celebration in 2016, Steamtown National Historic Site will join with the more than 400 National Park Service units to celebrate the 98th birthday of America's Best Idea with a Fee Free Day on Monday, August 25! The historic industrial railroad yard site features a visitor orientation center with exhibits showing how the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad's Scranton Yards evolved from 1850 to present, a 250-seat digital surround-sound theater showing the park movie, an active roundhouse, and history and technology museums that tell a multimedia-rich story of the significance of railroad transportation in the U.S. Visitors may join a scheduled Locomotive shop tour and, for a small charge of $5 for all ages 6 and older visitors may ride the Scranton Limited short train ride inside of the railroad yards.
